Women that are involved in agriculture are an important part of every operation.  They also have a commitment to make themselves better business partners.  As a Livestock Extension Educator with SDSU, I want to help these women.  Through South Dakota Women in Ag, I can connect and educate women that have a desire to learn.  As a farmer's daughter and a woman involved in agriculture, I also have  desire to learn from other women.

Hi, I'm Lanette Butler.  I'm a Livestock Extension Educator with SDSU from North Central South Dakota.  I'm a mother of two wonderful children and my husband farms with my brother on a farm/ranch operation.  I joined the WIA committee because of quality programming that is offered.  I feel compelled by the stories and life experience of every woman I talk to and want to try to make their lives better.

I work as a legal assistant in western South Dakota, have been married for 21 year and have two sons.  My husband and I have been on the family ranch since 1989 full time, before that we both had off farm jobs and helped at the ranch on weekends.  We raise cattle, sheep, and plant feed crops.  I was born and raised on a ranch just inside the Montana border, so agriculture has always been in my heart.  I enjoy working with our local kids in 4-H, booster club, and youth group.  I enjoy working with the public, but miss being on the ranch full time. My hobbies have been my sons and their activities for the last 14 years, and now that they are grown I'm looking for new hobbies.  I have been involved with South Dakota Women in Ag since the beginning and have loved every minute of friendship, learning, and vision.

Growing up on a family ranch, that was mainly female operated after I was 9 due to the death of both my father and grandfather, I have seen the need for more women to take an active role in the farm/ranch operation.  Due to my interest in agriculture and educating people, I earned a degree in Agriculture Education from South Dakota State University.  I have worked for the Extension Service for 20 years, first as a 4-H/Ag Agent in the North Central part of the state and now as an Agronomy Educator in my home county.  My husband, two boys, and I also operate my family's ranch along with my mother.   I am interested in Women in Ag both personally and professionally.  This gives me a chance to work with a different audience than we normally see, plus I see the need for women to become more active leaders both on and off the farm.

I'm a South Dakota Extension FCS Educator in eastern South Dakota graduating from SDSU in 1986.  As a mother of four grown children and two granddaughters, I also farm with my husband.  I love to travel and sew when I find the time.
